Melbourne highlights!

If you can get down to Melbourne in the next coupla months there is much to see: John Brack is excellent of course. The Dali show is really great even if you share my reservations about Dali the painter , it is a remarkable body of work and beautifully presented- cinema, tv, photos, animation, jewellery etc. Ian Potter at Melb Uni has a beautiful selection of early Arnhem Land barks from Donald Thompson’s collection. But the real stunner is the Len Lye (1901-80) survey at ACMI, Fed Square. Avantgarde abstract handpainted and scratch films (1930s) and stunning kinetic sculpture- fabulous. Runs til Oct 11.
