Reading Groups – Discussion Groups – WHAT DO YOU NEED NOW?

The Reading Group has run its course for the time being but there are other possibilities that can be helpful to you at this stage.
Its over to you all to let your views be known and to help initiate whatever will be most useful to you now. Liz (Coates) had some very good suggestions you could take up to assist your writing.

Liz could you elaborate on those ideas here, please?
Everyone can then comment and make suggestions too, and all, students and lecturers can see and be part of the process.

You may wish to retain the dates set for the reading groups as the time to pursue other options.
The first was Friday 24 April, (first week after the break) the second during the intensive on Tues 11 or Wed 12 May 2010.

What would you like to do and who would you like to be involved? Put it all here and see what develops.

  1. I would be interested in some kind of mentoring system with a small informal group.

    • Can you say more about that?

  2. Please keep something happening during the intensives. I’m happy for some reading/reviewing discussion group because I’m an external student and value the connections and conversation. I’m also curious about the mentoring?

  3. We’ve been thinking of having occasional, informal, student-only sessions looking at our work and writing. We can generate our own forum, as well as having meetings with staff (eg intensives and reading groups). It would be good to have external students involved too. Perhaps we could talk about this at the next intensive (11th and 12th May – Ria and I will be letting you all know about this soon).

  5. The mentoring system I am referring to would be along the lines of what Julie has commented on. Informal meetings with other students to discuss artwork and writing would be helpful.

  6. I am happy to join in with the informal student sessions when I return. Maybe what is needed to replace the meeting style reading group is a regular online discussion of readings so distance students can participate. Then we can all respond in a more considered way in our own time if the reading interests us.
