Painting Group Interpretation of Compostion Painting No.1
I have uploaded the raw recording of the group’s sound interpretation of my painting. Over the next few weeks I shall work with the file and add other tracks. When finish the tracks I will upload the manipulated file so there will be a ‘before’ and ‘after’ recording to listen to.
I thought it would be good feedback to everyone who participated to hear what the performance actually sounded like before I start working with it. Also, I would like to thank all of you very much for your participation.
Keep an eye on this space for the finished recording.

have a catalogue for you from ‘Sight and Sound: Music and Abstraction in Australian Art’. An interesting show at the Arts Centre, Melbourne so will bring it up on 28th.
has work by Roy de Maistre, Ludwig Herschfeld Mack, Yvonne Audette, John Aslanidis, Michael Graeve and one or two others.

Hi Aria, this is a good idea enabling group comments of work online. As a drummer, when listening to the recording I was struck by the metronome style tap in the composition and thought it detracted from the subtle diversity of sounds occurring. Percussion that responds to the placement of elements in the work, their distance and proximity would be my response. I recalled the cabaret voltaire and dada sound performances, which you can check out on ubuweb

Note the irregular use of percussive sound.
Hi Vanessa. I agree with you but I did not interfere with the group’s interpretation. It was an impromptu performance by the group and they did it unrehearsed on the spot. I recorded their interpretation. I think Peter may have thought there needed to be time for the others and became the percussionist. I took a John Cage approach and accepted the sounds that were made. It is not my interpretation of the painting.
I have been listening to some Dada sound poems on the NGA website. They are fabulous.
