Canberra Cancerians charity auction

Hi everyone,

A friend is organising a charity auction at the Canberra Cancerians Ball – they raise money for cancer research.  She is looking for donations of paintings etc for the auction.  I gave a couple last year, and got a few commissions as a result, and I wondered whether anyone else would be prepared to donate work this year.  It’s an A-list kind of event (I never go; it’s much too posh).  Could you email me if you’re interested?

Melbourne highlights!

If you can get down to Melbourne in the next coupla months there is much to see: John Brack is excellent of course. The Dali show is really great even if you share my reservations about Dali the painter , it is a remarkable body of work and beautifully presented- cinema, tv, photos, animation, jewellery etc. Ian Potter at Melb Uni has a beautiful selection of early Arnhem Land barks from Donald Thompson’s collection. But the real stunner is the Len Lye (1901-80) survey at ACMI, Fed Square. Avantgarde abstract handpainted and scratch films (1930s) and stunning kinetic sculpture- fabulous. Runs til Oct 11.

Jon Cattapan at the Australian War Memorial Fri 29 May

09 NP(MAL) LR001

If you happen to be in Canberra on Friday May 29th: The commissioned works from Jon Cattapan’s time in Timor Leste for the Australian War Memorial will be unveiled for a  press launch at the AustralianWar Memorial, Canberra.

He’s sent us the following invitation’

“Following the Press launch on the 29th I am going to stick around  from 3.30pm to 4.30pm and would like very much for you to join me at that time in the AWM’s Courtyard  Gallery to take a look  at the works with Giselle and I, have a chat and maybe a drink afterwards in the cafe or at a yet to be decided bar.

Hope you can make it along.  Jon”

The works are viewable to the public until only Sunday 31st May.

NB! This Sunday 24th May 2pm! Mawurndjul talks

This Sunday 2pm at the Drill Hall Jon Altman and Luke Taylor will talk about the John Mawurndjul show which is about to end. They are both very eminent scholars and Mawurndjul is a very important painter, so I would highly recommend this session.

Practical Metaphysics – Ella’s reading for Group 2 – 29 May 2009

Very sorry you’re having trouble with the reading download. Don’t know what the problem is as I can download it without trouble.

I’ve added it as a link under Reading 3 in the side panel, if you can bear it, try clicking on that to see if you get a download.

(See new post for change of plan)

Click on the links below for Ella’s reading for Goup 2 on Friday 29 March 2009. It’s taken from a catalogue of an exhibition of work by Tony Lane and was published by City Gallery Wellington NZ.

The main text is a large file so if you have trouble downloading and printing it, let me know and I’ll print out a hard copy for you.

The second link is scan of the page in the catalogue with acknowledgments for the text and exhibition which it accompanied.
