Canberra Cancerians charity auction

Hi everyone,

A friend is organising a charity auction at the Canberra Cancerians Ball – they raise money for cancer research.  She is looking for donations of paintings etc for the auction.  I gave a couple last year, and got a few commissions as a result, and I wondered whether anyone else would be prepared to donate work this year.  It’s an A-list kind of event (I never go; it’s much too posh).  Could you email me if you’re interested?

Updated schedule for the Intensive Program – 11th and 12th May 2010

Thank you all for responding to the call out for presentations. Below is the schedule for the intensive program.

Changes to the Program

We received a few requests for an ”informal feedback session” that would allow post grads to ask questions or put ideas up for discussion and feedback. To facilitate this we have extended the program until 3 pm on Monday the 11th May.

All issues and ideas no matters how insignificant or significant that pertain to your practice, writing or the PHD are welcome.

Hanging of work

The hanging of work for Intensive Presentations and for Sound Bite will have to take place after 4 pm on Monday the 10th or alternatively before 9:45 am on Tuesday the 11th May.

This is due to Post Graduate Reviews that have been scheduled for Monday the 10th of May between 2 pm and 4 pm in the painting department.

Sound Bite: Everyone is asked to bring work for this (1- 2 works). Work can be hung in the “Stair Well” area, in the post grad section and on any other walls.

Emma and Joel will be able to assist those who need help with hanging. Joel will be in on the Monday until 5 pm and Emma will be in on the Tuesday from 9 pm. Should you have any special requirements in relation to hanging work etc., please contact Emma at the workshop before 4 pm on Friday the 7th May. (emma.beer@anu.edu.au)

Ria will be around in the department between 4 – 5 pm on the Monday and at 9 am on the Tuesday to assist.

Invitation to Dinner: We have scheduled a “get together” dinner on Tuesday the 11th May at 7pm. A reservation has been made at the Spicy Ginger – Chinese Cuisine at Uni Lodge – 2/25 Childers St, Canberra City ACT 2601 – ph: 6162 1708.

Please let Ria know if you will be joining the party so that she can confirm numbers with the restaurant.

Dear All,

Julie Brooke and I (Ria) have volunteered to organise the next painting intensive for Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th May 2010.

Everyone is asked to bring work to show in the “sound bite exhibition”.

We suggest the following timetable for the two days. It and venues will be confirmed ASAP after we hear from you.

As you can see, sessions will run from 9:45 am until 2 pm, with four, 30 minute time slots each day, allowing 6 – 8 presentations over all and providing 15 – 20 minute presentations, the remaining time for questions and discussion.

Suggestions for presentations

  • Power point
  • In front of the work
  • Other format
  • Combination of above
  • If you wish to talk about an artist, a piece of writing/ essay/ book or artwork that is feeding your current research this will be welcomed as well.

“sound bite exhibition”

Please bring one or two current paintings, drawings or other work to hang in the Painting workshop for the period of the Intensive. Work will be hung in the PG space, the Drawing Room, and the foyer at the top of the Stairs. We will schedule time to view the work and each person is asked to give a 2-minute “sound bite”, regarding theirs.

Please bring your work to the Painting Drawing Room on Monday the 10th May at 3 pm. Or, if you are off campus email either of us so we can keep a spot to hang the work on Tuesday morning.

Finally, if there are any exhibitions to be seen and that coincide with the timing of the intensives please let us know and they can be added to Wednesday’s schedule.

We must know by Wednesday the 21 April 2010 of your interest to present or not and your preferred method of presentation, so that we can arrange equipment and structure a flow to the schedule.

Please indicate if you have a particular preference for a day and time.

Email both Julie and me of your interest to present – our email addresses are: julie.brooke@anu.edu.au & elefteria.vlavianos@anu.edu.au

We look forward to hearing from you and if you have any suggestions or queries please contact Julie or me.

Regards Ria and Julie
