Updated schedule for the Intensive Program – 11th and 12th May 2010
Thank you all for responding to the call out for presentations. Below is the schedule for the intensive program.
Changes to the Program
We received a few requests for an ”informal feedback session” that would allow post grads to ask questions or put ideas up for discussion and feedback. To facilitate this we have extended the program until 3 pm on Monday the 11th May.
All issues and ideas no matters how insignificant or significant that pertain to your practice, writing or the PHD are welcome.
Hanging of work
The hanging of work for Intensive Presentations and for Sound Bite will have to take place after 4 pm on Monday the 10th or alternatively before 9:45 am on Tuesday the 11th May.
This is due to Post Graduate Reviews that have been scheduled for Monday the 10th of May between 2 pm and 4 pm in the painting department.
Sound Bite: Everyone is asked to bring work for this (1- 2 works). Work can be hung in the “Stair Well” area, in the post grad section and on any other walls.
Emma and Joel will be able to assist those who need help with hanging. Joel will be in on the Monday until 5 pm and Emma will be in on the Tuesday from 9 pm. Should you have any special requirements in relation to hanging work etc., please contact Emma at the workshop before 4 pm on Friday the 7th May. (emma.beer@anu.edu.au)
Ria will be around in the department between 4 – 5 pm on the Monday and at 9 am on the Tuesday to assist.
Invitation to Dinner: We have scheduled a “get together” dinner on Tuesday the 11th May at 7pm. A reservation has been made at the Spicy Ginger – Chinese Cuisine at Uni Lodge – 2/25 Childers St, Canberra City ACT 2601 – ph: 6162 1708.
Please let Ria know if you will be joining the party so that she can confirm numbers with the restaurant.
We look forward to seeing you all and if you have any queries please contact Julie or Ria via email: julie.brooke@anu.edu.au & elefteria.vlavianos@anu.edu.au

Postgrad intensive- week of May 27-29 2009
Thinking ahead to the next intensive week, I’d like to get a sense of how you all would like to do things this time around. Me feeling is these weeks are a chance for everyone to touch base and have a look at work in progress, raise discussion about the programme, give us feedback etc as well as the scheduled Reading group etc. We do need to plan venues for any work-in-progress presentations- I’m assuming for those whose studios are in town that we can look at actual work, but for those itinerants(!) it might be still a matter of showing images on screen.
We can use the Drawing Room and upstairs foyer spaces to hang work for discussion, and in some cases it might be viable to have a session in your studio- if it is large enough to fit the group, plus a few honours people who like to come along sometimes. Also, how long do each of you want for this kind of session?- please be mindful of timing as I think we need to be much stricter about staying on schedule this time- but I think that will be much easier now we have had that preliminary intro to everyone.
Maybe I’ll get Leah Bullen to send out a proposed schedule of times for WIP presentations and you can choose a time which suits. I assume we will have reading groups on the Friday usual time.
Are there any suggestions as to other things you might do that week- eg. social stuff, discussion, meetings or maybe screenings of interesting material-( dvds) on artists or things related to your research ??? Maybe we need time for you to meet in smaller groups or one-on-one for more focussed discussion in your studios? We’d like the programme to be driven by your interests and preferences so please let us know what you think will work most effectively to make the programme as useful to you as possible. Anyway- give all this some thought and get back to me with your ideas….thanks, Ruth
