More on Merleau-Ponty – for your interest

This text is Lecture 6. Art and the World of Perception from a book of a series of seven lectures given on French radio in 1948. Although the text we’re reading for friday was written in 1961, I thought you would be interested to see how he presented his ideas at an earlier stage of development, in simpler form and in language for general audience. Apologies for the quality of the scan, but I think you should be able to read it.

By the way, Jude’s text, I think (say if I’m wrong Jude), is from; The Merleau-Ponty Aesthetics Reader Edited & with an Introduction by Galen A. Johnson, pub. Northwestern University Press. It is in the library so you can check notes for Eye and Mind see Plates of artists work discussed in it and also read the introductory chapter and a critical essay on Eye and Mind. If you’re not familiar with M-P, these and the attached text may be useful.

Interested to have your comments on any of this.
